“Southern Colorado Family To Host Potential Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Donor Drive”
Team Aden Needs Your Help – Join The Colorado Bone Marrow Drive For Aden Knar!
The parents of a 10-year-old Falcon area boy are hoping someone in southern Colorado might be a match for their son Aden Knar who’s in need of a life saving bone marrow transplant. Aden was diagnosed at age four with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and was successfully treated and in remission in 2008. In November of 2013, the Knar family learned that the leukemia had returned, and is now isolated in his bone marrow.
Aden has gone through intensive chemotherapy, which eradicated 99.5 percent of the cancer in his bone marrow, but he is unable to reach complete remission, with the remaining percentage being very dangerous.
Doctors have recommended a bone marrow transplant to take place as soon as possible, as additional chemotherapy will not be a cure. Currently there is no match for Aden in the worldwide bone marrow registry, and without one, his chances of survival could be less than 20 percent.
It was Easter Sunday 2008, the Knar families youngest child Aden was not feeling well and didnt want to eat his favorite ham, more importantly he had a yellowish tint that developed around his eyes…. It was Saturday evening on March 29th that they discovered Aden – at only 4 years old had Cancer… Aden endured three years and three months of chemotherapy which ended in July 2011. He had a complete remission.
In October of 2013 Aden was complaining of headaches and backaches. A scan of his blood showed a reduced platlet count. Due to his history with cancer, the clinic decided to do a bone marrow biopsy. On November 19th 2013 – The Knar family discovered his cancer / acute lymphoblastic leukemia had returned isolated in his bone marrow.
Team Aden is led by his mother Lorelie along with dad Mike Sr. His sisters Alexa, Allie and Alea and his brother Mike Jr. Along with his niece Audree Sky and her dad Zach (roni) and grandma Ethel in Illinois – uncle David Anthony in Illinois and Uncle Steve and Aunt Sue and cousins Kyle and Ryley.

Every year, more than 10,000 people from all ethnic backgrounds are diagnosed with life-threatening blood diseases who hope for a marrow donor who can make their transplant possible. Seventy percent of these patients do not have a compatible donor in their family or are unable to use their own cells and need to search the Be The Match Registry ® for an unrelated donor.
Joining the Be The Match Registry ® is fast, easy and painless. Would-be donors, between the ages of 18 and 44, simply complete a short health history and consent form and a sample of cells is collected through a cheek swab for initial testing. The total cost to add each new member is about $100. Be The Match® relies on financial contributions to help cover these costs. Contributions help add more members to the Be The Match Registry® giving more patients hope for a cure. Those joining the Be The Match Registry® are asked to give what they can.
If you are a potential match, CMDP will contact you to undergo further testing to determine if you are a true match. If it is determined that you are a true match, you will undergo a physical examination.
You will be asked to donate cells through one of two ways – a donation of marrow or a Peripheral Blood Stem Cell (PBSC) donation. You recover quickly from either procedure and your cells are naturally replenished within a few weeks.
The CMDP, administered by Bonfils Blood Center, has two primary initiatives – to facilitate stem cell and marrow transplants to give patients with blood-related diseases a chance for survival and to recruit more potential Colorado and Wyoming donors to the Be The Match Registry®. Since its inception in 1989, CMDP has added more than 81,000 potential donors to the registry and has facilitated more than 590 blood stem cell or marrow transplants and more than 70 cord blood transplants to support patients in need all over the world. Tapia Advertising would like to help Aden and the Knar Family find a bone marrow donor. We had the pleasure of meeting Mike and Lori Knar about 5 years ago when we were the lead coordinators of Springs Spree. Mike Knar was the general manager of Cumulus radio at that time. He was always extremely professional and we enjoyed working with him and his radio stations on several different campaigns for our clientele… In the world of advertising, it is hard to find trust worthy people in the media industry that you can count on. You learn to see the honesty in people upon first meeting someone and hope they are a reliable associate to work with… When we met Mike And Lori Knar for the first time, we knew immediately that they were good people. Mike is by far one of the hardest working individuals we have ever met in the radio industry. As big fans of the Knar Family, we want to help spread the word for Aden Knar’s Bone Marrow Drive – in any way that we possibly can! For those of you that will read this, please share with your friends and family. You never know that you can save someones life by a simple act of sharing… Thank You!
